Black and White Nocturnes

Homage to Chopin

By John Minnion

A moon ... a nude ... a piano. The basis for John Minnion's 21 Nocturnes, black and white visual responses to the 21 Nocturnes for piano by the Polish composer Frederick Chopin. Chopin, tubercular all his life, died at 39 in 1849. But to this day, his music continues to inspire pianists, enrapture listeners and evoke verbal responses of admiration, even adoration. This book presents a selection of those words of homage – by Chopin fans such as Rubenstein, Heine, Shostakovich, Proust and Oscar Wilde – alongside the pictorial tribute.

The pictures have become the basis of an animated pictureshow.
